To use a foreign exchange service, all you have to do is (1) set up a bank account in US dollars and (2) set up a (free) account with a foreign exchange service provider (FESP). Then you simply transfer the funds for your car purchase from your Canadian bank account to your US bank account using the FESP as the intermediary.
The process is very simple, but can provide you with significant savings. Once you are set up, you can also use your foreign exchange service account to purchase a home, boat or other big ticket items in the USA (or any other country). Or simply to convert funds for a holiday in Hawaii...
